With
the Alfa 158 set for launch next year and with the amazing public response from
the Italdesign-Giugiaro Brera concept, Alfa Romeo are working hard to preview
the GTV replacement alongside the 158 at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It's
European showroom debut is planned for September 2005.
A
shortened version of the Alfa 158's Premium platform will be used for this new
Brera-inspired 2+2 sportscar. The striking car will be offered with a 2595
mm wheelbase and are being developed under codename Project 947. The
dimensions will therefore be near-identical to that of the Brera concept. Due to it's similarity to the concept, the name of the production car is
currently being referred to as Brera.
The
Brera coupe will be followed in 2006 with a Spider sister, sharing the same
platform and general styling. As with the original Brera concept car, both
the production Brera and Spider have been styled by Italdesign-Giugiaro and will
be more luxurios than their predecessors.
Each
Brera coupe model will come standard with a Torsen-C four-wheel-drive
transmission. Engines offered will be both petrol and diesel units ranging
