25.03.2005 MF1 Supercar – “Bound to become the fastest production car in the world"

Further details of the Project 1221 MF1 supercar have been released today, in the monthly Project 1221 news update. Focusing on the interesting topic of packaging, the news update reveals the engineering methods which have been used to make MF1 a multifunctional travel capsule.

Although no sketches or photographs of this project have yet been released, yet alone spy photographs, the update provides an insight into the general shape that can be expected.

For the first time, it has been publicly announced that the MF1 will feature a mid-engine layout, supporting the previous claims of ‘unrivalled handling’, which requires ideal weight distribution. Building on this interesting theme, Project 1221 have disclosed that the MF1 supercar will feature both frontal and rear luggage loading areas.

“Concerning its "packaging", in spite of a mid-mounted powerplant, the MF1 is distinguished by a rear lift-back screen offering access to a luggage compartment capable of quite more than the "usual" pair of golf-bags and even allowing to carry ski gear. An additional luggage compartment is located in the front.”

With impressive weight distribution requirements in mind, Project 1221 have used the ingenious solution of packaging the rear luggage compartment partially above the engine. Not only is space used highly efficiently with this packaging arrangement, but weight distribution is also less effected during different loading scenarios.

Similarly, it is expected that the large fuel tank(s) of the MF1 will be located in a central position, as on the original Lancia Stratos. Although no specifics regarding the engine configuration have yet been released, the use of a ‘Boxer’ or ‘flat-V’ engine would be ideal for the packaging requirements, as well as assisting in the claimed low centre of gravity.

Further details have also been released regarding the performance abilities of the MF1, claimed by Project 1221 as “Bound to become the fastest production car in the world”. “After our previous announcement concerning the four-digit power output of the MF1, it is only fitting to also announce a five-digit power band.”

As humorously put by Project 1221 CEO Andreas Andrianos, "The MF1 has an M in addition to the F1, i.e. a "Mauro"  that should make a difference compared to the McLaren!"

The MF1, by Ing. Mauro Forghieri, legendary former head of Scuderia Ferrari's Reparto Corse, Lamborghini Engineering and Bugatti Automobili, is bound to become the fastest production car in the world.

The exterior and interior design of the MF1 supercar are expected to be no less fascinating than the technology used under the skin. A low rear end will feature, offering easy access to the luggage area, whilst interior entry has been facilitated by the implementation of doors which swing upwards.

“A highly functional and elegant layout comprising upwards swinging doors ensures unusually comfortable and unhindered access to the airy yet eminently protective and cosy passenger compartment.” The MF1 will not only offer security in the unlikely event of a high speed collision, but also offers full armour protection.

“With general awareness of Project 1221 and of the - still under wraps - MF1 mounting slowly, it is remarkable to have already received our first orders. It is worth noting that, in contrast to our current policy of a frozen price of € 575 000 before tax, an as yet unspecified price increase would indeed accompany the unveiling of the MF1.”
