Centro Stile Lamborghini (CSL), which was setup by Walter De Silva in 2003, is a studio that does not design cars. Instead, it realizes some of the most emotional and inspiring shapes that have ever been created for clothing four wheels and high-powered engines.

The creations from Centro Stile are not meant to be practical, they are also not meant to be outrageous. Instead they are meant to mix the latest technology with the progressive creativity and beauty that stirs the imagination and passion that are the ingredients of dreams. In other words, CSL is a contemporary version of traditional Italian coachbuilding – a true creator of largely unobtainable desire.

Created by CSL design chief Luc Donkerwolke, Lamborghini’s latest mobile sculpture comes in the form of the Concept S, a roadster based on the highly acclaimed Gallardo sportscar. The concept explores how the Gallardo’s already intoxicatingly high enjoyment envelope can be pushed to the outer limit and beyond.

At a first glance the Concept S appears to be just a Gallardo that has had its roof chopped off, but the styling goes further than aggressively decapitating an already stunning vehicle. Following the press release, the Concept S was inspired in part by traditional single seater racers which used the so-called ‘saute-vent’ to deflect wind over the drivers’ heads. On the Concept S, this has resulted in two clearly defined interior compartments divided by a central arch running from the nose of the car to its tail.

The low cut lines and single arch towards the back give the sensation of speed, even when the car is stationary. The central focal point is also reminiscent of the traditional racing pin stripe, however perhaps the greatest resemblance lies with the Class 1 World Offshore powerboat racing, a sport in which Lamborghini have been leaders ever since winning the championship in 1994. To top this, the sharpness of the concept’s pearlescent white paintjob adds to underline the car’s offshore parallels.

Other changes that have been made to the Gallardo include modified front and rear bumpers, which incorporate the inlayed central sweeping arch and a generous rear diffuser for improved aerodynamics.

The car is also fitted with unique chrome-finish alloy wheels. A central rear view mirror fitted flush within the central arch extends at the press of a button if the driver requires it.

Like the legendary 350 GTS and the Muira Roadster, the Lamborghini Concept S will remain a unique and spectacular expression of the Raging Bull brand.
