21.03.2005 Reiter Engineering plans to enter the Lamborghini Murciélago RGT car in selected races in the 2005 season of the FIA GT Championship

Reiter Engineering plans to enter the Lamborghini Murciélago RGT sportscar in selected races during the 2005 season of the FIA GT Championship, and will appear for the first time in public this year at tomorrow's FIA GT test day at Monza.

The German race engineering company was responsible for building and developing the Murcielago R-GT race car, from the road-going specification model over the preceding two years, and successfully ran their test car in the FIA GT Championship's Valencia, Spain, round last year, claiming a strong podium finish for Peter Kox and Oliver Gavin, after having been on the leading pace all weekend.

The car, now revised for 2005 and running in the re-named GT1 class, will be out testing at Monza during the FIA GT official test days which takes place tomorrow and Wednesday, and will also compete in the first round of the series to be held at the same circuit.

The driver line-up is expected to be made up of Norman Simon, who drove the Amprex Motorsports Murcielago R-GT in selected rounds of the Japanese GT Championship last year, and Peter Kox, who has a long relationship with Reiter, and partnered Oliver Gavin during the Valencia outing last year.

“Our plans are not yet 100% finalised, but we hope to do as many FIA GT rounds as possible, focusing on the European rounds, “ team boss Hans Reiter explained. “We also plan to race in some national Championships.”

Reiter Engineering has competed in the FIA GT Championship on a number of occasions from 2001 onwards, entering various models of Lamborghini.

The team put in a memorable performance in that year's season finale at Estoril, when Gavin and Kox finished in 5th position overall, scoring the team - and Lamborghini’s - first points in the Championship. Reiter  Engineering was also a regular entrant in the Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy.
