07.11.2005 Maserati have announced the provisional 7-race calendar for the 2006 Trofeo Maserati Europa, which will be once again contested by GranSport-based racers

Maserati have announced the provisional calendar for the 2006 Trofeo Maserati Europa. The main characteristic of the Trofeo series has been maintained as the races will still be held on the same weekend as the most prestigious events in FIA GT Championship and FIA World Touring Car Championship covered wheel racing.

The Emilian cars will make their debut on 2 April at Monza, while the Lombard circuit will also play host to a WTCC meet that weekend. Two events will then be held in May: on 7 May at Silverstone and 28 May at Brno. These two races will take place at the same time as the FIA GT granturismo world championship rounds. After the June break the Trofeo Maserati Europe will move on to Oschersleben in Germany on 2 July. Belgium is next on the calendar on 29 July. There the Trofeos will take to the track before the FIA GT cars dispute the classic 24 Hours of Spa. The Republic of San Marino will be the setting for the penultimate round on 17 September. The cars derived from the GranSport will battle it out on the Imola track. The season will conclude in Valencia on 8 October when the drivers will divide the weekend with those who are competing in the international WTCC championship.

Maserati have announced the provisional seven-race calendar for the 2006 Trofeo Maserati Europa, which will be once  again  contested  by  GranSport-based   Trofeo   racers

The first event prior to the opening of Maserati's new year single-make championship took place at Varano, the circuit close to Parma, at the end of October. Watery sunshine and autumnal skies greeted the twelve potential participants for the next Trident championship. The group of eight Italians, two Spaniards, a Swiss and an Englishman completed an average of sixty laps, corresponding to a total distance of some 130 kilometres.

The drivers were assisted by an official Maserati test driver and were able to apply his astute advice when out on the track. Matteo Cambi, the young businessman and creater of the Guru label also took part. He was so impressed with the GranSport Trofeo that he has committed to competing in every race in 2006. In fact, all the drivers were very satisfied with the car and the superbly organised event. In order to meet demand, Maserati Corse has decided to hold another test day. This is programmed for today at the Varano de’ Melegari circuit.
