12.05.2005 Alfa Romeo has received a last minute boost ahead of this weekend's Silverstone FIA WTCC races as the Touring Car Bureau has reduced the minimum weight of the FWD cars by 20kg

The Alfa Romeo Racing Team has received a welcome last minute boost ahead of this weekend's FIA World Touring Car Championship races at Silverstone as the Touring Car Bureau has decided to reduce the minimum weight of the front-wheel drive cars by 20kg.

This is the first intervention by the new Bureau, which was established at the beginning of this year with the task of taking quick decisions about technical and sporting matters. In this particular case, the intervention was inspired by Article 83 of the FIA WTCC Sporting Regulations, that enables the Bureau to adjust the minimum weight of the cars at any time during the season, in order to keep performances balanced.

The dominance of the rear wheel driver BMW runners, over the front wheel drive brigade, including the Alfa Romeo Racing Team, in the opening two events forced the swift rethink.

The Touring Car Bureau's decision was as follows: “After consideration of the time set during the first two events of the Championship, it has been decided that, for the Silverstone event, the minimum weight of all the front-wheel drive cars will be reduced by 20 kg.”
