07.11.2006 THE ALFA 8C COMPETIZIONE HAS ARRIVED IN TURKEY

The new Alfa 8C Competizione sports car has made another glittering centre stage debut, just over a month since its world première in Paris, this time it is the focus of attention at the Istanbul International Auto Show which runs until Sunday.

The Alfa 8C Competizione is a headline-grabbing sports car which thrusts the Milanese brand right back into the global spotlight, with a ground-breaking contender that combines cutting-edge styling with retro looks that draw on the brand's history. Three years after it debuted at the Frankfurt IAA as a concept, the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile designed car made its first appearance in full production specification at the Paris Mondial de l'Automobile in September where it was the show-stopper.

Since the headline-grabbing Paris Motor Show debut, the production-ready Alfa 8C Competizione has stunned the crowds in locations as far afield as the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, where it has been on display earlier this month; however the arrival of the dramatic new 4.7-litre V8-engined sports car in Turkey underlines that Alfa Romeo is also targeting boosting sales in this market where it has a strong core following and a quickly growing brand awareness.

The car's order book was opened in Paris immediately after it was introduced and it has reportedly already sold out with prospective customers now being set to be vetted by Alfa Romeo before being approved. Deliveries will begin in mid-2007. Meanwhile it is reported that Alfa Romeo has already given the green light to a second 500-unit production run, this time though centred around the convertible Alfa 8C Spider.

Alfa Romeo’s 696-m2 display stand in Hall 5 of the CNR Expo exhibition complex in Istanbul is a tribute to design and passion, the building blocks of the brand’s spirit. Visitors at the Alfa Romeo stand are able to feel the intensity and aesthetics of Italian style which emphasise and extol the pleasures of life. It is truly the Italian spirit that makes Alfa Romeo come alive. The stand at the fairgrounds has been defined with simple geometrical designs, forming a brilliant frame around the aggressive lines of the automobiles, making them an inevitable centre of attraction.

Also being displayed on the Alfa Romeo stand is the full range of models, including the Alfa 147 2.0 (150 bhp) fitted with the Selespeed transmission and also the 'Blackline' trim options pack; a second Alfa 147 1.6 (120 bhp) this time featuring the 'Collezione' pack; an Alfa 159 1.9 JTDM with the new Q-Tronic transmission and in 'Distinctive' trim; another Alfa 159 1.9 JTDM, also being shown in Distinctive finish; the Alfa GT 1.9 JTDM with Selespeed and the 'Blackline' trim pack; the Alfa Brera 3.2 V6 Q4 with the glass Skywindow; and finally the Alfa Spider 2.2 JTS, which - like the Alfa 8C Competizione - is also making its full Turkish debut.
