FERRARI 60 RELAY

20.02.2007 THE FERRARI 60 RELAY ARRIVES IN JAPAN

Ferrari is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2007 with a major event from June 21st to June 24th in Maranello, Italy. Maranello will be the finish line of a "relay race" across five continents where participants are carrying a baton embossed with symbols of the 60 greatest moments in the company's history. Over the weekend the relay has been travelling through Japan.

On Saturday morning the relay started in Tokyo on the Shiba Square in the centre of the city. At the Zojoji temple around 180 owners participated in a ceremony, in which the baton was handed over. Together with the 575 M Maranello, 360 Modena, F430, 612 Scaglietti and the new 599 GTB Fiorano, as well as a 275 Testarossa, a 250 GTO the 512 Testarossa the F40 and F355 arrived. Regardless of the formal atmosphere the owners were delighted to take part in the event and in the initial ceremony a baton, a plate, was handed over during the lunch at the Prince Hotel at the park as a gift of the Ferrari community to Italy.

Some of the robes worn by the participants were really impressive, such as the one worn by Mrs Yasuki, wife of a Ferrari customer, who was wearing a kimono, which had been designed especially for the occasion of 60 years Ferrari. After lunch the Tour left in the direction of Gotemba in the country's centre, where the cars arrived after driving around 100 kilometres on the highway.

In this city just next to Mount Fuji the Matsuda Museum can be found, which, named after its owner, displays various cars from Ferrari. Matsuda was the first Ferrari customer in Japan carrying the symbol of 60 years Ferrari in his wonderful 250 GTO.

Around 10:00 on Sunday morning the cars taking part in the Ferrari 60 Relay left the city of Gotemba to drive 230 kilometres to Nagoya, arriving at the Ferrari Showroom. At the departure the climate was humid and cold so the participants expected not to be able to see Mount Fuji because of the bad weather conditions. The 40 cars joined the Ferraris of the Tour, which is divided in four stages here in Japan. Finally, they all arrived together at the Showroom in Nagoya. The baton was handed over four times and the staff of the Tour could also manage to see the impressive Mount Fuji as a backdrop of the cars. After a day of travelling in the evening the event held at the Showroom was crowded with numerous customers and enthusiasts, celebrating the passage of the tour organized for the 60 years of Ferrari.
