The Fiat 500 has just been voted best 'City Car' in the BBC Top Gear Awards 2007, the latest issue of the popular magazine offering another accolade to the new car which has won a string of awards during the closing months of the year. It "embodies effortless Italian style and epitomises the Italian ability to accomplish miracles from simple ingredients," wrote Top Gear.

The Fiat 500 has taken the automotive world by storm this year, it is simply the only car that anyone is taking about at the moment and it has already collected a welter of important awards since its 4th July launch. These include the most treasured award of them all, that of Car of the Year 2008, as well as Auto Europa 2008, EuroCarBody 2007, Auto Trophy, British TV programme Fifth Gear Car of the Year, and magazine CAR Car of the Year.

Now on sale in most of the major Western European new car markets, it will go on sale in the UK in the next few weeks. Last week the 500 added Italiaspeed Production Car of the Year 2007 to its growing collection: with 8,407 votes it was a runaway winner in the voting. A very distant second place went to the Grande Punto Abarth (2,824), a performance car which heralds the rebirth of the famous sports brand, while third place went to the Alfa 159 TI (2,373), the latest Alfa Romeo to proudly wear the famous ‘TI’ acronym.
