12.02.2007 SCUDERIA PLAYTEAM WILL RUN A FULL FIA GT CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAMME THIS YEAR

After three intense days of testing at the Adria Raceway on February 6th, 7th and 8th, Scuderia Playteam-Sarafree has announced the names of the drivers for the two Maserati MC12 cars that they will campaign in the 2007 FIA GT Championship. One of the cars will be in the hands of 2006 FIA GT Champion Andrea Bertolini, who won the overall GT1 title at the wheel of a Vitaphone Racing-run Maserati MC12. Alongside him will be the 2006 series runner-up, Andrea Piccini, who switches from the Phoenix Racing Aston Martin DBR9.  The other Scuderia Playteam MC12 is set to be driven by Giambattista Giannoccaro and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

Scuderia Playteam-Sarafree already have FIA GT Championship experience, having taken part in the Mugello round during the 2006 season, where Toni Vilander qualified the car in third position, and led for most of the first hour in atrocious weather conditions before retiring on the 35th lap. Giannoccaro and Pier Guidi shared the car with the Finnish driver.

"The car looks good, although the weather was wet and cold which made testing difficult," Andrea Piccini said after his drive in the car at Adria.  "But the car is very nice to drive; the traction is great, and it is more like a single-seater than other GT cars I have driven.  The team is very well organised and it looks like being a good season." After five years alongside Jean-Denis Deletraz, with whom he has claimed five wins and finished in second place last year, this will be a big change for Piccini. "It's nice to have an all-Italian car, with two Italian drivers, an Italian team, Italian-made car and tyres," he said. "I'll miss Jean-Denis, but he's happy for me, and we'll keep in touch. This is really going to be a good challenge."
