A very special glimpse into the world of Ferrari is now available at the Galleria Ferrari which from the start of May has been offering its visitors an exhibition of 15 previously unseen works by photographer Franco Fontana.

The shots by the Modenese photographer date back to the years 1985-1987 and cast a whole new light on the cars built by the Prancing Horse in that period. The cars being, of course, the legendary Testarossa and the 328 GTB, which are also on show at the Galleria together with the photographs that so beautifully capture their unique allure.

After music and film, the Galleria Ferrari is now providing a showcase for the photography of Franco Fontana, one of the leading Italian photographers and a consummate professional with a sterling international reputation.

Born in Modena in 1933, Franco Fontana began taking photographs in 1961 as an amateur. His first one man show came in Modena in 1968 and was followed by participations in over 400 group and one man shows in galleries and museums across the globe. Fontana has also published more than 40 books and won international awards, the latest of which was an Honorary Degree from the committee of the Faculty of Architecture (eco-friendly design) at the Turin Polytechnic in 2006. He has collaborated with the Centre Georges Pompidou, the French and Japanese Ministries of Culture and is artistic director of the Toscana FotoFestival. Fontana has also directed a whole host of advertising campaigns and works with leading Italian and European periodicals.

The works making up this exclusive show were produced as a result of a commission by the Paris-based Fondation Cartier and several are now part of its collection. The objective of the commission was to represent the modern Ferrari legend in the context of a major "Hommage à Ferrari" staged at the Fondation Cartier in a splendid park not far from Paris in May-July 1987, the year of Ferrari's 40th Anniversary.

The photographs will be on show at the Galleria until June 30. The Galleria Ferrari is located in Maranello just a stone's throw from the historic factory. It is open seven days a week between the hours of 9.30 and 19.00. The exhibition is included in the regular admission ticket.
