The Autodelta 159 J4 2.2 C received its public motor show debut at MPH08 last weekend, the London-based design and tuning house’s latest exclusive high performance creation one of the stars of its ‘home’ motor show. From Thursday to Sunday, in the halls of the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, Central London, the bespoke, supercharged ‘grand tourer’ received much attention. Autodelta was delighted with the its public debut, confident that this is a car for the discerning, performance-seeking driver, and that it will replicate the market success of the most recent J-series models, the Brera J5 and Spider J6.

The MPH Motor Show, with its ‘Live Action Arena’, hosted as ever by BBC TV Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, brings together only the finest and most prestigious of sports and luxury cars. To stand out at this extravaganza you have to present a product truly worth of the ‘high performance’ tag – and rubbing shoulders over the four days with the Autodelta 159 J4 2.2 C and Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C were representatives from a swag of truly prestige automotive brands, including Koenigsegg, Spyker, Lotus, Pagani, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-McLaren, Porsche, Bugatti, Mercedes and Aston Martin. The Alfa Romeo badge, though, is at home in any company.

The new Autodelta 159 J4 2.2 C made its world debut at an exclusive event in Amsterdam in the summer, and MPH08 was its public motor show debut. For Autodelta, the 159 J4 2.2 C completes a three-year jigsaw that has seen the global leading aftermarket Alfa Romeo design and tuning house breathing fire into the exciting new-generation of Alfa Romeo models: the 159, Brera and Spider. With the 159 J4 2.2 C, Autodelta not only brings its bespoke J-series makeover (upgrades to the transmission, suspension, chassis, electronics and aerodynamics) to Alfa Romeo’s stylish sedan, but introduces a supercharging package to the 2.2 JTS direct injection engine. An intensive R&D programme preceded the arrival of the supercharged JTS unit, making us the only firm in the world to offer this option and keeping us firmly at the leading technological edge, pushing away at the dynamic envelope; in fact just a handful of car manufacturers worldwide offer forced induction coupled to direct injection engines.

Jano Djelalian, Managing Director of Autodelta, says: “We’re all delighted with the reception that the J4 received at MPH08. It’s nice to be able to present the car in public for the first time at a show that is only a few miles from our headquarters and to see so many of our customers dropping by. There has always been a strong affinity towards the Alfa Romeo brand in London and it’s pleasing that so many visitors who stopped at the stand are knowledgeable about Autodelta and what we are striving to achieve, especially as there were so many amazing cars to catch the attention.

“Presenting our products at MPH is always a great way to end the year, and 2008 has been even better for us than the last one, satisfying too considering the current economic climate. I can firmly say that the J4 is our best project yet, and everyone who has test drove it so far has been impressed. It has also seen our biggest commitment to Research & Development, a large cost for a small company like ours, but essential if we are to offer optimised products and satisfy the most demanding of drivers. We are reaching out to a new customer with this car, not an inch of luxury has been dispensed with in developing this model, raw power is harnessed perfectly; it’s a true, effortless touring car in the finest traditions of the genre, and one that will leave the driver refreshed at the end of a long trek, but with a big smile on his face.

“It’s been an excellent year for our company and we have several exciting new projects in the pipeline. Within the next few weeks we will launch a ‘Model Year’ version of the Spider J6 which will bring it into line with the Brera J5 3.2 C MY08, and in the early New Year we will realise more new projects, that I think Alfisti will appreciate.”
