Fiat will manufacture its new 900cc SGE gasoline engine in Poland and to build the powerplant, Fiat Powertrain Technologies will expand its plant in Bielsko-Biala. The reports come from Automotive News Europe.

The engine will be the smallest unit available in a European car and will be the only two-cylinder engine on offer in Europe when it goes into the forthcoming Topolino, a microcar that Fiat will build at its newly acquired Zastava factory in Serbia, starting from late next year.

Internally called SGE (Small Gasoline Engine), the unit's variants will range from an economical 65hp normally aspirated version to a turbocharged 110hp version equipped with Fiat's new Multiair adjustable valve timing system. The 65hp version will have CO2 emissions of less than 100 grams per kilometer.
