30.01.2008 FIRST LOOK AT GENEVA BOUND PININFARINA CONCEPT CAR

PININFARINA SINTESI

Following a brief announcement of the project last month Pininfarina has revealed a first sketch of its Geneva-bound Sintesi concept car which reveals a dynamic-looking 4-door passenger car.

Pininfarina’s latest concept car, the Sintesi, is scheduled to debut in just under a month at the Geneva Motor Show. “Sintesi” is Italian for Summary, and combines essences which typify the designs of Pininfarina: passion for innovation, beauty driven by functionality, sportiness and elegance. The Sintesi follows in the footsteps of the compact Nido concept (2004) and the Maserati Birdcage 75th (2005), both prize-winning concept cars.

Following a brief announcement of the project in December 2007, Pininfarina has now revealed a sketch of the Sintesi which reveals a dynamic-looking 4-door passenger car. The shape incorporates traditional Pininfarina details such as the defined side seen on the Ferrari 365 GTC/4.

The aerodynamic research set forward on this car follows the Pininfarina tradition, with its aerodynamic passenger car design research milestones including the BLMC 1100 / 1800 (1968), NSU Ro80 Quarz Quattro (1972) and Studio CNR (1979).

The design of the Sintesi project was directed by Lowie Vermeersch, director of Pininfarina’s design department. Lowie Vermeesch was born in Kortrijk, Belgium, and graduated in 1992 with a Master of Science in Industrial Design Engineering with first class honours from the Delft University of Technology - Faculty of Design, Engineering and Production.

Vermeersch, 33, has almost ten years experience at Pininfarina prior to taking up his new role as design director in August 2007. Since joining Pininfarina in 1998 as a designer, Vermeersch has participated in projects including the Metrocubo (interior), Ford Start (interior) and Nido (exterior and interior). He also followed the development of the Pininfarina Birdcage 75th. Assisting him on the Sintesi project are Vice Directors Guglielmo Cartia and Fabrizio Valentini, as well as chief designers Jason Castriota, Giovanni Piccardo, Goran Popovic and Giuseppe Randazzo.

The Sintesi will represent a synthesis of Pininfarina’s latest design qualities, embracing innovative technologies that explore the future trends in mobility, active safety and packaging solutions. More details will be revealed on the Pininfarina Sintesi website ( www.sintesi.pininfarina.com ) in the lead up to the show.
