Fiat Automobiles has presented the Concept car 500 Aria and Fiorino passenger car at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show on a spacious stand which includes the Bravo, new Croma and Grande Punto. The overriding theme though is the Fiat 500 and the huge scale model seen in Frankfurt and Bologna forms the backdrop, though this time the tracks have gone as the interior become a zone to learn about the Car of the Year award winning 500.

In his press conference brand CEO, speaking for the first time in Geneva, revealed that the 500's order book stands at over 170,000 units and he was quick to point to the Concept car 500 Aria as a sign of the future. This show car is equipped with a Diesel 1.3 16v Multijet Euro 5 power unit (with anti-particulate DPF filter) combined with robotic Dualogic shift and the Stop&Start system which decreases the consumption up to 10% in urban cycle.

Inside, the Aria features a swage of recycled materials such as a floor that is made from old tyres, seats from recycled and re-woven leather, and other recycled and organic fabrics. It follows swiftly on from the Panda Aria project, shown in Frankfurt last autumn, and this prototype, which is fitted with the new 900cc SGE engine, is also present at the Swiss show mounted on a large revolving turntable in the centre of the stand.

The second motor show debut from Fiat is the passenger carrying version of the new Fiorino, which follows closely on from the commercialisation of the van range earlier this year. The new Fiorino mini-MPV is only 3.86m long but can carry five people. The vehicle will have six different seating configurations to allow for cargo-carrying, and will come with engines including the 1.3 Multijet diesel and a 1.4 petrol. In the flesh this new Fiorino derivative with its very distinctive styling shows off its flexibility and ease of loading with its large tailgate and sliding side door.
