After a transport problem scuppered its chances of arriving in time for last October’s Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, the Ferrari 430 Scuderia has finally landed down under in Melbourne. General Manager of European Automotive Imports, Kevin Wall, introduced the new car, which has already secured 80 orders and boasts a 30-month waiting list, despite a list price of A$550,000.

Decked out in striking Giallo Modena paintwork, set off with anthracite alloys, the Scuderia was the highlight of Ferrari’s new display, which itself projected a much classier image than at previous Australian shows.

Present for the launch were three notable guests – Pietro Innocenti, Marketing Director for Ferrari Asia Pacific; Marco Mele, Ferrari Regional Business Manager; and Matteo Bonciani, Ferrari’s Director of Communications for the Asia-Pacific region.

The Scuderia has a number of differentiating features compared to the standard F430 Coupe. With lower ride height, the car sits squatter than the standard car; gearchange times are cut to 60 milliseconds, the shortest time the computer can safely engage and disengage the clutch; the 4.3 V8 is reworked to boost power and torque to 510 bhp and 470 Nm respectively; and the car has embarked on a major weight-loss programme, including stripping out the carpets and radio, to achieve a weight loss of 100kg. Capped by stickier Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber and larger carbon ceramic brakes, these enhancements boost performance, to the extent that it is the fastest-ever Ferrari roadcar around Fiorano, with 0-100 coming up in just 3.6 seconds and 0-200 taking just 11.6 seconds.

The rest of Ferrari’s range is also represented on the stand, with the Scuderia flanked on one side by the 599 GTB Fiorano, and on the other by an F430 Spider and a 612 Scaglietti.
