Fiat has announced today that Fiat Automobiles CEO Lorenzo Sistino and Fiat Automóveis CEO Cledorvino Belini have both been appointed to the Group Executive Council, the senior management body formed by Group CEO Sergio Marchionne to promote the influx of new ideas and to help speed along the decision making process.

Belini is the Chief Executive of Fiat Automóveis SA (FIASA) and the Group’s senior executive in Latin America, joined Fiat in 1973 and has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility across the Group’s business, and was appointed to his current position in 2004. The 64-year-old has successfully led Fiat’s automotive business to market leadership, which today represents the most significant contributor to Fiat Group Automobiles’ operating results.

Sistino is the Chief Executive of Fiat Automobiles (Fiat branded passenger and commercial vehicles) and Head of European Commercial operations for all Fiat Group Automobiles brands (Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and LCV). 47-years-old, he joined the Group in 1987 and has progressed in a variety of roles in the Group, including as Chief Executive of the New Holland Agricultural business, stationed both in the UK and in the US. The Fiat brand has continued its steady penetration of the European car market in 2009, and now accounts for more than 26% of the Italian and 7.3% of the European passenger vehicle market. All Fiat brands now account for more than 32% of the Italian and 9% of the European car market.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to appoint two seasoned executives to the Group Executive Council. The Council was created more than 5 years ago, and is the highest executive decision making body within Fiat outside the Board of Directors," said Marchionne in a statement today. "It has been responsible for the reshaping of Fiat in the last few years and for having steadfastly internationalized our activities. Mr. Belini’s knowledge and understanding the Latin American markets and Mr. Sistino’s seasoned commercial skills will undoubtedly strengthen the decision making capabilities of the GEC."

The Group Executive Council is now composed of Sergio Marchionne (Chairman), Alfredo Altavilla, Alessandro Baldi, Cledorvino Belini, Harold Boyanovsky, Gianni Coda, Maurizio Francescatti, Stefan Ketter, Paolo Monferino, Eugenio Razelli, Lorenzo Sistino, Riccardo Tarantini, Harald Jakob Wester and Gilberto Ceresa (Coordinator).
