The
Trofeo Abarth 500 GB will kick off in
2010 and the new series will be launched at
Silverstone on Thursday with media, guests and
potential drivers invited to the Stowe circuit
to discuss, test, check, admire and enjoy the
Abarth 500 Assetto Corse racing cars and learn
more about the proposed race series for next
year and beyond.
Since the UK
Round of the Trofeo Abarth 500 Europe in Brands
Hatch, the forthcoming Abarth 500 Trofeo GB has been
the subject of talk in the paddock over the summer. It has
been a long journey from the initial idea of organising the
series to today and Abarth UK has collected feedback from
drivers, teams and sponsors in order to create a series by
the competitors for the competitors.
The organisers
will announced details of the Trofeo Abarth 500 GB
for the inaugural 2010 season on Thursday. The series is
expected to support key race weekends and appear on the card
with important championship rounds, including the FIA World
Touring Car Championship, the British Touring Car
Championship and the British Superbike Championship. It will
also join forces with next year's UK round of the
pan-European Trofeo 500 Abarth Europe, the second
edition of this series, which is just completing a promising
first year taking in major European race tracks.
The championship
launch this week will showcase the first batch of 500
Assetto Corse racing cars that have been sold and sent to
UK. The first teams and drivers signed up for the series
will also be on hand and as the Abarth 500 Trofeo GB
starts to gear up for next season and competitors show
growing interest another batch of four cars has been
prepared by Abarth in Turin to be shipped to UK next month.
All the cars are built in Turin and are randomly assigned to
the teams with the same quality standards and processes
applied to every unit that comes out of the factory. The
cars not only go through a typical manufacturer check but
are also subject to a shakedown and test at the Fiat Group
proving ground in Balocco.
Abarth in Turin
is building a sufficient stock of cars to cover the demand
of the UK market. The Abarth 500 Assetto Corse racing cars
are being shipped to UK in batches of four. The car comes as
race ready with four new tyres. All cars are painted with
the standard white Abarth racing colour. A passenger seat
option is available on request.
Meanwhile
Coastal Racing has become the first team to sign-up to the
Abarth 500 Trofeo GB. Carl Bradley, team manager and
driver, has been interested in the series for a while and
now he has now committed to run a multiple car team in the
inaugural Trofeo Abarth 500 GB. Costal Team has been
racing successfully in the Mini Challenge and the Clio cup,
and they are now ready to take up on a bigger challenge with
the high profile Trofeo.
