With the GranCabrio, Maserati will provide one of the most glamorous and stylish stars of the 2010 Australian International Motor Show from 15-24 October) at Sydney’s Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre. Supporting GranCabrio on the Maserati stand will be the Maserati Quattroporte, the car that has proven successful in a category it effectively established; it has had other car makers rushing to launch their own products in a bid to match the Quattroporte’s performance, style, luxury and exclusivity. But the Quattroporte remains both the car that established this category and the benchmark against which they must all be tested.

Founded in 1914, Maserati built its reputation in Motorsport dominating disciplines as diverse as the Targa Florio, the Indianapolis 500 and, of course, Formula One, during its history. Indeed, the Maserati 250F is often credited as the greatest and the ultimate definition of a Formula One car, competing from 1954 to 1960. It was behind the wheel of a Maserati 250F that Juan-Manuel drove to victory in the 1957 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in what is usually described as the greatest Formula One victory of all time. This success continues today with the Maserati MC12 which is, if anything, not only enjoying a competition career as long as the 250F but is even more successful. Following its launch 2004, the MC12 has won the FIA GT Championship in 2005 (Manufacturers and Drivers), 2006 (Team and Drivers), 2007 (Team, Manufacturers and Drivers), 2008 (Teams and Drivers), 2009 (Team and Drivers) and in 2010 Maserati and the MC12 are, once again, leading the Team and Drivers’ title chases for the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship.

Building on this remarkable motorsport record, Maserati has a long history of performance cars that blend effortlessly the high levels of on-road ability with a unique quality of style and exclusivity that could only come from Italy. In 2010 Maserati offers three models, the Quattroporte luxury performance sedan, the GranTurismo four seat coupe and the GranCabrio, Maserati’s first full four seat convertible. Each has been acclaimed for their style, performance and even the evocative sound they produce.

Following its Australian launch earlier this year, the GranCabrio is now perfectly positioned to maximize the approaching summer for drivers looking for the pinnacle of open top motoring. The GranCabrio is as beautiful with its roof up or stowed, a transition that takes just 28 seconds and which may be achieved either from a button on the console or via the key in the door lock. This is a true four seater and has enough boot space for a set of golf clubs, while every journey will be one taken in perfect comfort with the ventilation and even the audio system adjusting automatically with different settings for roof up or roof down.

The Maserati Quattroporte has built its reputation on providing a combination of a car that is as dynamic, responsive and exciting to drive as any sports car that carries the legendary Maserati Trident badge, yet at the same time is a spacious, luxurious saloon that can waft its occupants across the city or across the country cocooned in comfort. As if this apparent contradiction in characters was not sufficient, Maserati has clothed the Quattroporte in a body that is an all time automotive design classic, one that is as handsome as it is sleek and which has a hand crafted interior that could only come from Italy.

The Maserati GranTurismo has the ability to turn heads even when it is not visible – the fiery crackle of its exhaust note on over-run or its operatic bellow under acceleration, turn heads as surely as its glamorous good looks. But this is no show pony that has abandoned practicality for appearance. This lustrous coupe is also a full four seater, with a boot to match and its comfort and style delivered with delicacy separate it decisively from its heavy-handed rivals.

Nine million. That is the number of trim and colour combinations it is possible to have in each Maserati, so, theoretically, every Maserati is different and tailored exactly to the personal tastes and requirements of each owner. With exclusivity the differentiator between Maserati and many of its rivals, this combined with the fact that Maserati badge will never be seen on any lesser car that the Quattroporte, GranCabrio or GranTurismo enables Maserati to ensure that its owners will always be in a rarefied area of ownership and enjoying a reputation that has been built on real achievement, past, present and, without doubt, yet to come in the future.
