16.05.2012 ANDREA ZAGATO AND MARELLA RIVOLTA JOIN UP THE DOTS OF HISTORY ON MILLE MIGLIA

Paolo Golinelli created for Scuderia Sports a special painting of Sirmione and the Alfa Romeo 1900 CSSZ.  The artist wanted to let the viewer transport themselves back to the 1950s, when the Alfa Romeo 1900 was built, and share the sheer fascination that the Milanese special bodywork held and still holds today.

This year's edition of the Mille Miglia, will see Zagato strengthening its partnership with Scuderia Sports, and international historic racing team established three years ago.

Andrea Zagato (the third generation of the Zagato family at the wheel of the famous Italian design house) and Marella Rivolta - Zagato (the granddaughter of Renzo Rivolta, the Iso Rivolta founder) will be at the steering wheel of  a rare 1957 Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS Zagato. Among the 40 units ever built, this chassis 10593 is very unique: it’s one of the  three with a specific shape of the rear wheel arches and one of six with double bubble roof, the most typical design cue of Zagato stylistic language.

At the Mille Miglia, Scuderia Sports will also line up a 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C Gran Sport 1500 TF Zagato - which achieved 3rd place OA  in 2011 and 2nd place OA in 2010 and a legendary 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 MM Zagato.

The team will bring together top competitors from Argentina, Italy, United States, Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom aiming for the podium and will take 11 historical cars and 3 modern Ferraris (which are part of the Ferrari Tribute) along the Mille Miglia. It will be the largest 'scuderia' of all Mille Miglia race teams.

Members of team began preparing for the Mille Miglia last week end in Sirmione sul Garda at the Hotel Palace Villa Cortine, headquarters of Scuderia Sports during the event. The 14 cars were displayed near the Castle on Sunday where supporters and visitors enjoyed fast cars and slow food offered by the local Italian wineries and restaurants.

In honour of the event, Paolo Golinelli created for Scuderia Sports a special painting of Sirmione and the Alfa Romeo 1900 CSSZ.  The artist wanted to let the viewer transport themselves back to the 1950s, when the Alfa Romeo 1900 was built, and share the sheer fascination that the Milanese special bodywork held and still holds today. The setting is the entry to Castello Scaligero in Sirmione. The second stop along the Mille Miglia has become the base for Scuderia Sports/Zagato during the annual MM race.
