Fiat North America is boosting the entry level offerings of the two niche members of the 500 “family”, the 500L and 500X, giving them a more refined visual feel by adding a chrome-effect trims as a new option package for both models.

Dubbed as the “500L Chrome Appearance Group” and the “500X Satin Appearance Group” these trim kits are now available for ordering by customers at the dealerships and as specifically for the lower end of the range models which Fiat will hope get an urgently required sales boost.

With Fiat sales collapsing across the US this year, the brand is down 44% year-on-year to 9,525 units to the end of July, improving volumes is a priority.

The 500X is down by 21% year-on-year to the end of July, and has sold 3,603 units in the period, while the 500L is up 10%, albeit to just 1,011 units, although they have declined much further in recent months and both saw an equal 37% fall in demand last month.

The 500L Chrome Appearance Group is available on the 500L’s “Pop” level model and adds several new exterior trim features: front-bumper chrome accents on either side, rear-reflector chrome bezels and body-side moulding chrome accents as well as fog lamps and finally 17-inch aluminium wheels with black recesses.

For the 500L this specification can be ordered on any one of seven exterior colours, namely Grigio Chiaro (graphite metallic), Nero (black), Bianco (white), Rosso (red), Grigio Scuro (grey metallic), Blue Tornado and Blue Denim.

The 500L Chrome Appearance Group is available costs US$495 on top of the Pop model’s price, which start at US$20,995.

Meanwhile, the 500X’s “Satin Chrome Appearance Group” is also available on that model’s “Pop” level in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and expands customisation options for consumers.

This trim package adds satin chrome accents on exterior mirror caps, door handles, lower body-side moulding, fog lamp bezels, front bumper, front and rear badges, tailgate handle, tail lamp bezels and satin silver roof rails. It also includes fog and cornering lamps, automatic headlamps and 17-inch aluminium wheels on the front-wheel drive version only. The kit is available across all body colours in the range.

The Satin Chrome Appearance Group for the 500X costs US$395 on all-wheel-drive models or US$695 on front-wheel-drive models, which start at US$23,890 and US$19,995, respectively, excluding destination charges.

“The Fiat 500X offers all-wheel-drive confidence, five-passenger seating and best-in-class standard torque,” reckons Steve Beahm, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat, FCA – North America. “The Fiat 500L is powered by a MultiAir Turbo engine and features a spacious, flexible interior with a nearly 360-degree view. Our new Chrome Appearance Groups give each of these Italian-designed, fun-to-drive vehicles a sleek, refined, custom look.”
