Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) continued to enjoy big gains in France during July as its sales rocketed up by more than a half and in fact it was the best performing carmaker on that market for the month just gone in year-on-year growth terms.

Overall, the French new car market continued with the positive direction it’s seen this so far year through July and a total of 147,518 new passenger cars were registered during the seventh month of the year; that was up an impressive 18.9% year-on-year.

FCA can seemingly do little wrong in France this year and the 10,456 units the Italian-American carmaker sold during July was up a hefty 56% on the same month last year and added up to a near four thousand unit rise which pushed its market share up by almost one and a half percentage points to 5.96%.

In year-on-year terms FCA enjoyed triple the overall market's bench line growth in July and was the top performing carmaker in France, with the next best gainers being Nissan, up 45.8%, and Toyota, climbing 30.2%.

With its sales slumping across the world, France is providing a real haven for the Fiat brand, it's deep rooted problems once again not in evidence here during July as it put on two thousand units and 61.5% to end the month with 7,846 units sold to take a 4.47% share of the market.

However, the Alfa Romeo brand is struggling in France – as it is almost everywhere – and it's 913 units was up 4.7% year-on-year but underperformed the overall market and as a result it's share slipped to 0.52%. The Jeep brand wrapped up the picture for FCA in France during July; it was up 82.7% to 1,593 units.

For the year-to-date the French new passenger car market is in positive mood, up 6.3% on the same seven months last year after shifting 1,363,546 units.

July's surge for FCA, its biggest rise all year, has propelled it to 67,629 units sold over the first seven months of the year and that's up over thirteen thousand units and 24.4% on the same period last year. That performance has given FCA a 4.96% share of all sales for the year-to-date. It makes FCA the best performing carmaker this year in France in year-on-year terms with the Hyundai the next best performer as the South Korean carmaker has seen its sales rise 22.5%.

The Fiat brand is enjoying a cracking year and is up 24.6% to 52,254 units after seven months. Alfa Romeo slightly misses the market's gains but is still up 4.7% to 5,729 units while Jeep is up 43.4% to 9,044 units.

Fiat's highest selling model in France for the year-to-date is the 500 with 16,859 sales and it's also the market's eighteenth best seller while the Tipo (9,509 units) is next up in thirty first place. Then comes the Panda (8,091 units) in thirty seventh place.

For Jeep its sales for the year-to-date are split pretty evenly between the Renegade (4,433 units) and Compass (4,354 units), the French market's seventy sixth and seventh eighth most popular cars, respectively.
