The technical
features currently installed on the Panda Hydrogen still need a lot of work to
overcome problems relating to cost, Fuel Cell power unit operation, fuel storage
and component durability and reliability.
The use of Fuel Cell car fleets in a controlled environment such as a town
centre will allow us to assess developments in the technology as they arrive
from research and manufacturing sectors while also allowing users to familiarise
themselves with the new vehicles.
The most critical aspect governing the future of Fuel Cell vehicles is the
hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure. This will take a long time
to develop and means that it will be a long time before we see hydrogen cars in
general use on our roads, although this does not rule out more short-term niche
applications. |
