16.03.2003  CASTAGNA TO REVEAL ROSSELINI CONCEPT AT VILLA D'ESTE CONCOURS IN APRIL

Castagna Rosselini conceptEight years ago Gioacchino Acampora and Uberto Pietra revived the name of the famous Carrozzeria Castagna by presenting an unusual Alfa Romeo 75-based prototype in Geneva after purchasing the right to the historical name.

After a quiet period Acampora has bounced back in Geneva with new concepts. Castagna have re-worked the dashboard controls of the 1995 Auge concept, a four-seater custom body on Maserati 3200GT chassis. The G.C. is a two-door, two-seater custom-body based on Alfa Romeo chassis with rear wheel drive. Lastly the Rosselini is a barchetta custom-body built on one of last year's Ferrari GT sportscar racers.

The company claims that the G.C. and the as yet to be seen Rosselini prototype will be completed by late April and will take part at the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance.

Rosselini

This custom built car will be offered as a “première” during the “Concorso di Villa d’Este” that will be held in Cernobbio, Como, Italy from April 25th-28th.

It is dedicated to the great Italian director Roberto Rossellini, a real Ferrari enthusiast. Infact, he personally ordered a number of coachbuilt Ferraris. Among them was the famous 375 Mille Miglia, often seen with Ingrid Bergmann at the wheel.

The coachwork will cover a sporting Ferrari chassis, raced during last year's GT championship. The form is a “barchetta”, elegant but, in the meantime, able to give prominence to the 720 CV twelve cylinders engine.

The rear wheel drive Rosselini will be fitted with Ferrari's 5.75-litre V12 engine producing a claimed 720CV @ 7,500rpm, and a six-speed manual gearbox. It will be 4300mm long, 1970mm wide and 1240mm high, with a 2520mm wheelbase. It wil sit on 20in alloy wheels shod with 245/35 tyres on the front and 305/30 on the rear.
