03.04.2003  FURTHER LOOK AT PUNTO RESTYLING

The ageing current Fiat Punto, which undergoes its third and final facelift this summer, will receive a revised front end that draws its styling cues from the Stilo, to harmonise the "family" look.

The front end features a new more agressive bumper with large spoiler cut outs, bigger headlamps which wrap round further into the side wings, and Stilo-style radiator grille which blends into a bonnet offering deeper swages which fan out accross the surface. The prototype in these shots has rear changes limited to new bumper mounted reflectors.

The interior has been updated with a revised dashboard, high quality seat cloth and high specification equipment. In the engine department the new 1.3 Multijet 16v becomes an option, along with the 100bhp 1.9JTD, while a new 93bhp 1.4-litre petrol unit will be mated to Fiat semi-automatic Speedgear gearbox.

The revised Punto will feature a hot HGT version dressed up with an "Abarth" styling kit. The Abarth will have a restyled front end to set it apart from the standard models as well as giving it a more aggressive look. LPG versions ( first seen in the current Punto at the Bologna Motor Show last month ) will be a production option also.
