FIAT FUTURE MOBILITY VEHICLE

Students on the Turin-based IAAD's Transportation course have offered their interpretation of a future Fiat optimum mobility vehicle. Giorgio Pirolo has created the 'Blob', Michele de Lilio the 'M.O.B.Y.', Fabio Cimino the 'Stargate, while Leopoldo Suffriti and Larent Narducci offered the 'Modulus'. 

MAIN PRINCIPLES FOR THE CREATION OF THE VEHICLES IN THE SPHERE OF INDIVIDUALITY PROJECT

- To go beyond the concept of individual possession of the vehicle.
- The pleasure of buying is substituted by the pleasure of virtual or functional personalization (paths, utilization, smells, colours, environment…)
- The interior of the vehicles loses material and combines physical transportation with information and entertainment.
- The mobility and distribution of the vehicle is guaranteed by a central management.
- The creation of urban structures for the operativity of the vehicles is not foreseen.
- The aesthetics of the public transportation vehicles is a reason of interest for the passengers.

VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS – MECHANICS

Thanks to a self-drive system (central control), the mechanics can be synthesized such as to reduce costs, encumberment and environmental impact (fuel cells, electric engine, simplyfied suspension). During the moving , the interaction with the outside will not be necessary (there is no need for windows, wind-screen) because the virtual information is guaranteed. The specific mechanics can be associated to different forms (for passengers or commercial transport) or to highly transformational forms. The system guarantees security and reduces the need  of passive protection on the vehicles (airbags, bumpers, anti-intrusion bars…)

- Mono-place vehicle for public or individual transportation - 

DETAILS

It is the nearest alternative to “privacy” that is given by the current automobiles.

CHARACTERISTICS 

It is dimensioned in function of the space that is strictly necessary for the single user.
The  compact dimensions allow an ideal utilization  of the urban space, eliminating the waste of using daily big dimension vehicles, usually occupied by a single user.

Allows the intercomunication between more people
The vehicle is formed in a way such as to be able to connect to its likes, creating couples, groups of four or even bunch of Zigote, that allow the users to travel in company and to have direct physical contact.
The perimetral panels disappear  through gliding or through wraping up allowing  the union of the vehicles, without interrupting the movement, Zigote can in fact aggregate through a simple rotation  of the abitative cell on the mechanic form, continuing the movement, does not create waste of time, nor hindrance to the traffic flow. 

Allows the maximum liberty of posture
During the transportation , the user can choose to stay up or to sit down: the hight of the vehicle and the position of the seat can variate  according to the chosen position.

It’s personalizable
A virtual screen is projected in front of the user  and allows to “conform” the vehicle according to personal requirements, other than guarantee all the necessary informatic connections.

MECHANICS

1)Traction: Is guaranteed by two pneumatic rubber belts (like motorski, but endowed with air chamber) in order to absorb the street roughness.
Such system is ideal considering the available reduced spaces and allows an alternative utilization to that purely urban (ex. Flight of steps, semi-jeep, etc.).

2) Suspension and street estate: The same magnetic system that permits the rotation of the cell in respect to the driving car, guarantees, through floating , the comfort in the interior of the passenger cabin and the stability in the curves.

UTILIZATION

Through cellular phone, computer, remote control, etc., is possible to contact the system of distribution that will take Zigota to destination in time requested by the user. The order will take in consideration of the personalization requested for:
- Transportation
- Destination,energy level of utilization (speed, order) travel time,….
- Virtual environment and ergonomy
- Decoration, colours, smells, music, temperature, standing or sitting position, command reachability….
- External communication
- Open/ close contact channels with the outside
- Open/ close of the perimetral panels

ALTERNATIVE UTILIZATION

The use of Zigota is foreseen also, mainly by night, for the transportation of  “clean” goods not particularly big

AIRPIN: FABIO MINIATI

- Public vehicle for collective and individual use-

DETAILS

Destined for the transportation of preferably 4 people with great individual space and solutions of utilization highly personalizable, in order to give the passenger a sensation of high exclusivity and if requested of complete isolation. The vehicle does not exalt a maximum number of transportable users, as for the best possible comfort, next to  the pleasure of individual  choice, even in the sphere of public transportation. Its outside shape wants to stimulate the pleasure and the pride of the choice of its users.

CHARACTERISTICS

The booking of the vehicle and its configuration can be done from home
Through the home book that can be put into action vocally it is possible to determine the time and the path, other than the virtual configuration of the cabin (colours, temperature, materials, environment….)
It is possible to determine the space volume at disposition
Conceived  for families or small group of friends, AIRPIN  can be used singularly or to a maximum of 10 people , for urban transportation or for long trips.
The cost of the utilization, payable through the home book, is determined by the quantity of modes – space reserved and people transported: in conditions of standard load , the individual space at disposal is very large (2 mt. X 1 mt.); will be delimitated by personalizable “virtual walls”, that guarantee, if desired, the total isolation from the rest of the vehicle.

Is possible to choose the sitting position
The classical fixed seats are substituted by a gel carpet, that covers the floor and walls; constituted by soft inflatable “pins” that can be moulded through air injections, according to predetermined shapes. Therefore it will be possible to choose a semi-erect sitting position, bracket seat, easychair, etc., or also the utilization of the clean space at disposal in case of standing up journeys or for the transportation of big objects.

MECHANICS

The panel is dotated with fuel cells and electrical engines for each tyre. The autodriveability does not request any comand in the inside of the cabin, allowing to exploit to the utmost the space. Eventual programme changes can be managed, in real time, through the home book.

BLOB ( GIORGIO PIROLO )

- Vehicle for the collective transportation utilizable in movement or steady – 

DETAILS

The vehicle can be used internally or externally thanks to its multiple possibilities of sitting.
Can be used; for the transportation , of who has booked it, or steady, by occasional users that will utilize it as an element of urban architecture (bench or sculpture).

CHARACTERISTICS

Blob can be treaded on
The particular conformation of the windscreen and the material of which is composed, gurantee, in a steady position, the maximum comfort: the windscreen is in fact composed by a soft transparent gel mantle  that extends itself till half ceiling. In the interior, the mantle is dotated of air chamber that stretches during movement and becomes windscreen.
Since the particular characteristics of the vehicle, is possible, while the vehicle is steady, to step up on the frony platform-bumper and sit on it, it will adapt its shape to the person like a puff. The exact  conformation of the seat will be guaranteed  by a process of “vacuuming” opposed to the configuration of the windscreen in virtue of the stretchting cables that maintain the chosen shape.

Can be modulated
In the interior, up to 6 seats are at disposal, that if are not used, can disappear under the floor,  which guarantees a loading floor completely smooth, accessible to encumbering load, through the rear door at lamellar closing.

UTILIZATION

Blob is bookable through a polifunctional wearable “band”, of property of the user, on which are registered the specific identity and preferences.
Entering the vehicle, the band and be anchored to the seat, creating a screen in front of the passenger, that will visualize all the functions (telephone, computer, DVD, etc.).

MECHANICS

At the booking act, it is possible to determine the type of mechanic conformation, in relation to the utilization: three typologies of orders and motorization are available, optimized as needed.

City
Urban course, low regime engine, highly economic. Each rotating group has two balls to favour the transversal movement.
Highway
Long ratio course on highway, strong engine at high regimes, bigger tyres.
Off-roader
Special utilization with high orders, dowelled tyres, appropriate engine report.

M.O.B.Y. ( MOBILITY ORGANISED BY YOURSELF ) ( MICHELE DI LILLO )

- Polifunctional collective transportation vehicle – 

DETAILS

It is thought mainly as a moving meeting point for young people that want to move in groups, becoming communities.
Interior design
Is totally constituted by transversal parallel bands to the moving sense, they modify such as to generate the chosen type of siting.
The internal bands can also help senior people, accompanying them in the movements in order to help them accomodate on the seats and also when they stand up.
The bands and help as regenerating massage to help blood circulation also during the journey.
High load capacity
The internal bands can disappear completely, giving the possibility of transporting highly voluminous loads.

MECHANICS

Traction
Starts through electric engines situated inside the 4 rear tyres, the batteries are inside the platform.

UTILIZATION

One can connect to the server through the internet from which after booking one can choose the course with departures, arrivals, intermediate rest, seat position, radio station, etc. …
The transportation of young companies it’s thought specially for the evening while during the day M.O.B.Y.  is used for the normal service of public transportation.

OTHER USES

M.O.B.Y. can be used by the clientele of big commercial centres that want to personally transport the big loads (furniture like IKEA, electric utensils and more).

NEURON ( GIANLUCA BERTONE )

- Two-place public vehicle for urban and extra urban transport – 

DETAILS

Is dotated of a big panoramic multifunctional screen and of special seats that allow multiple positions to the occupants, taking inspiration from the concept of liveability  of the roman “triclinium”. The objective is to travel in the maximum comfort, with an optimal personalization of the interactive support.

CHARACTERISTICS

The access is vertical, in order to simplify the entrance; otherwise sacrificed by the low hight of the vehicle; through the rotation on a single axe; the habitative cell places itself at 90? in respect of the normal  driving order. The particular conformation of the seats offer, when requested, a support like a bike seat, that allows the user to lean upon it even when the cell is rotated in vertical sense. The seat’s lateral bands support automatically the passengers legs who is accompanied in the fase of recovering the horizontal order.
The entrance door is the pavilion itself, or better, is the screen that moving upwards, offers during the fases of access and exit shelter  in case of inclemency of the weather.
The main activity in the interior is entertainment; with the maximum in terms of support available for videocomunication.
Relax can be favoured further through projections of special images on the screen (panoramas, galaxy space, sea, etc.) that consent the determination of the ideal environment. The UMTS cellular is used to convocate the vehicle at home.

MECHANICS

The two side torpedoes evocates the shape of the catamaran host the two electric mototyres (Siemens type) as well as the batteries.
The two torpedoes, individually self-sufficient, allow the utilization of the resources of one or of both groups, favouring the economy of use, or even increasing the autonomy of the system and the strength, according to the needs.

STARGATE ( FABIO CIMINO )

- Supercompact vehicle for pluri-individual transport – 

DETAILS

Dedicated to the transportation of passengers that are completely isolated among themselves.
The vehicle is designed around six environments, dimensioned to exploit to the utmost the space available, considering external encumberment that are particularly compact.
The central corridor guarantees an individual access to each environment, through two doors that are placed one in front of the other.
The strong style feature of the outside calls the access to astro-mythological environments for journeys beyond matter.

CHARACTERISTICS

The configuration of the vehicle can guarantee oniric trips in total isolation in respect of the outside environment.
The  self-direction system does not require any space dedicated for it; the “cells” are all the same and can be booked singularly.

Stargate is conceived for mainly urban journeys. For the long ratio journeys is foreseen a platform-shuttle  on which the vehicle will be placed to guarantee high speed transportation.

MECHANICS

At the four extremes of the vehicle, magnetic spheres are placed actioned by electric engines; that allow the total transversal mobility in all directions.

INTERIOR – Ping Pong concept

The interior is characterized by small placeable balls, through a system of superconductor magnets according to own taste and sensibility. It is possible to choose the shape and the colours of the internal environment, acquiring the prefered graphics directly from Internet; the small balls can compose ergonomic elements (ex. Seats) o purely graphic (wall decoration) in order to guarantee environments particularly personalizable. Also the downloadable software is personalizable, in such a way as to reinvent at own pleasure the environment and the combinations. Realized in pleasant materials for the sight and touch, the small balls contain inside its nucleus  superconductor material, that allows them of composing themselves in any position, once set on the support chassis  that are inside the cell.

MODULUS ( LEOPOLDO SUFFRITI/LARENT NARDUCCI )

- Extraurban vehicle for the transportation of people and things – 

DETAILS

Conceived for the transportation of passengers on long distance and for the delivery of voluminous loads through arteries of rapid way.

The vehicle is composed through connection of the passenger wagon or of the container for goods transportation on the mechanic platform.

During the day the vehicle has the function of transporting people on long distance journeys, while in the evening the “goods-form” is positioned in place of the passenger’s. The transformation takes place in special areas of re-message where the forms that are not utilized find recovery.
The management of the functions of the vehicle takes place through clearing, on national scale of the booking.

MECHANICS

The “chelae” are connected among them by a platform that allows the total autonomy for what concerns the mechanic part, that like a truck driving car, can with complete autonomy go back to its premises, once the load has been delivered.

INTERIOR

The passenger “form” is a sort of soft bag suspended between the mechanic chelae. The passengers find place at the side of the vehicle, adapting their position to the soft material that composes the sides , being able to change continuously its position, in order to favour the comfort on board.
