24.07.2003  CARSPORTS AMERICA DITCH ALMS SCHEDULE TO CONCENTRATE ON DEVELOPING THE PAGANI ZONDA GR

Carsports America, the organisation formed to run the Pagani Zonda GR sportscar this year, has dropped its plans to enter the new car in the remainder of the ALMS series. Instead the team will concentrate on testing and development with an entry at the final round, the Petit Le Mans scheduled.

The GT-class Pagani Zonda GR made its debut earlier this year at the Sebring 12 Hours, the project so new qualifying was undertaked with a standard road engine as its first race engine was not completed until the evening before the race. The car only managed six laps before retiring, and a second appearance for the Zonda at the Le Mans 24 Hours last month was equally as unsuccessful.

Two weeks ago the team undertook a 'promising' 70 lap test at Spa with regular driver Mike Hezemans at the wheel and it is hoped that a series of developments including a new gearbox, currently being built by Xtrac, will see the car a more competitive proposition.
