09.09.2002  ITALIAN TOURING CAR UPDATE: ROUND 8 VARANO DE'MELEGARI


The Italian Touring Car Championship moved on to the Varano de'Melegari circuit for round eight of ten.

Overall in the C.I.V.T Championship race, series leader Lorenzo Falessi consolidated his position with a second place in his Alfa 156, finishing one place ahead of title rival, BMW-pilot Alessandro Bernasconi.

Young driver Fabio Francia took the spoils in the Super Production category, moving into second in the series standings, 12 points behind the leader, BMW pilot Pigoli, with two rounds remaining.

In a hotly contested Alfa 147 Cup race, Luigi de Luca took his second win of the season, edging out Maurizio Campari, who had to settle for second place. Fourth place was enough to allow Alessandro Balzan to retain his overall championship and under-25 category lead.
